Food Safety Coordinator

Job Summary

The Food Safety Coordinator supports company food safety and product quality standards and programs. This role requires an understanding of food science and food/dietary supplement manufacturing principals. This position interacts closely with other departments within the company, therefore good people and communication skills are essential. The position is responsible for plant food safety programs, including HACCP/HARPC, Food Defense plan, Plant Recall plan, plant calibration records, etc. This position supports all functional areas of the facility.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Educates the facility in and assesses all types of risk including: packaging, utilities, ingredients and processes
  • Oversees utilization and effectiveness of established food safety systems and drive continuous improvement of systems
  • Design food safety processes for risk assessment that meet industry recognized standards
  • Assist in the oversight of the plant HACCP/HARPC plan
  • Provide assistance with HACCP/HARPC plant training
  • Perform plant internal audits; generating reports and distributing findings the plant management team
  • Oversees the plant Recall plan updates
  • Oversees the plant Food Defense plan updates
  • Coordinate plant calibration program- ensure all external calibrations are completed on-time and documented, and that internal calibrations are completed, with necessary documentation if overdue
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Food Safety, Food Science, or related field
  • 2 years’ experience in Food Safety, Management of Quality Product, or Project Management in the food industry
  • Knowledge of implementing food manufacturing policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of HACCP/HARPC planning
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Advanced writing skills, report writing, and documenting processes and procedures
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of staff on complex topics at the appropriate technical level
  • Ability to work to be a part of cross functional teams and manage projects/initiatives
  • Ability to resolve problems independently with sound judgement

 

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
