Santa Cruz Nutritionals, a leading manufacturer of gummy vitamins and supplements is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support maintenance and engineering across the facility with process improvement, cost reduction, equipment evaluation, redesign, upgrade, and installation, area layout, material flows. Assist maintenance and facilities with systematic issues.
Duties and Responsibilities
Reviews arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure most efficient and productive layout.
Designs sequence of operations and specifies procedures for the equipment and other functions that affect manufacturing performance.
Supports Lean Manufacturing initiatives, Continuous Process Improvement and Value Engineering projects in order to meet corporate financial goals.
Adapts machine or equipment design to factory and production conditions.
May incorporate inspection and test requirements into the production plan.
Inspects performance of machinery, equipment, and tools to verify their efficiency, and investigates and initiates corrective action of problems and deficiencies to ensure product quality.
Interfaces with suppliers to resolve quality issues with equipment and/or processes.
Develops manufacturing processes that are applicable to statistical process control, and may develop those techniques.
Provides guidance regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.
Ensures processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations.
Other tasks and duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Bachelor Degree or above in mechanical/industrial/chemical engineering
5 years’ experience in engineering, manufacturing process, workflow, production equipment, and industrial controls including PLC.
Working knowledge of lean tools (5S, SMED, Kaizen) and TPM
Knowledge of sanitary design and GMP standards pertaining to manufacturing operations is essential.
Knowledge food processing equipment and processes.
Knowledge of GMP’s, food safety, FDA regulations.
Familiar with mechanical, electrical and fluid power systems design and application. (To include boilers, chillers, and ovens)
The ideal candidate will have experience in upgrades to equipment, to include green field projects and be able to communicate with all employee levels and functions, to include cross-divisional collaboration.
Advanced verbal and written communication skills
Ability to converse with a wide range of mechanics, technicians, vendors, contractors, departmental managers, and engineers.
